12th Annual Photographers’ Retreat

Gettysburg, PA

April 3-5, 2020

Sunset, Gettysburg National Military Park

What is the Photographers’ Retreat? It is an opportunity for photographers to meet together over an unstructured weekend to talk with people who speak the same language, share work, take photographs and make new friends. How does it differ from a workshop or conference? There are no agendas, lectures or classroom teachers. At this retreat we all get to be students and we can all be teachers. This is an informal gathering and you may attend all or part of the weekend. There is no registration charge.

This year’s retreat will be entirely different! We are going to one of my favorite places, Gettysburg, PA. In my opinion, the battle at Gettysburg in early July 1863 directed the future of this country by deciding the issue of whether we would be one united country or two separate nations. I believe it to be one of the most important and sacred places in the United States and it is also a beautiful National Battlefield Park. The hotel is right next to the battlefield and there are unlimited opportunities to photograph. We have reserved the breakfast room Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon as a meeting location and print sharing location. It is a long drive from Maine (10 hours) and I appreciate that for some of you it will mean longer travel time than in the past. I think it will be well worth the journey.!

Friday evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a meet and greet in the meeting/breakfast room on the top floor of the hotel. We will then head to a nearby restaurant for a “no host” group dinner.

Saturday morning is set aside for photographing in the Gettysburg National Battlefield Park. In the afternoon the meeting/breakfast room in the hotel is set aside for sharing individual work. Bring work to share if you want, but it is not required. Saturday evening, we will make reservations at a local restaurant for those wanting to eat as a group and then return to the hotel for an evening of print sharing and conversation.

You are not obligated to attend any of the “events”. The intention of this weekend is simple: to give photographers a chance to make photographs and to meet, talk and share with other photographers their personal experiences of being a photographer.

To attend the retreat, you need only do 2 things:

1. Make a hotel reservation for either the Best Western Gettysburg or another place of your choosing.

2.  Send me an email with your email address information so I can put together a list of attendees. Please give me your email address in the body of the email so I can easily make a contact list. In the header please say Photographers Retreat so I can find it easily.

Invite your photographer friends along and let’s make this 12th annual event a wonderful opportunity for all of us! I look forward to seeing you in Gettysburg.
