Extraordinary Images in Ordinary Places

Remember your excitement on making your first photograph? Have you lost some of that enthusiasm as life got in the way of time for your passion? Are you ready to revitalize your interest and bring fresh ideas into your images? This workshop, open to all levels of photographic experience, is a great place to begin – whether you are looking to shake old habits, reacquaint yourself with good ones or enjoy the surprise of discovering a new point of view.

Working in and around the workshop campus, as well as locations in the mid-coast area, we will concentrate on bringing a difference to our photographs - a difference in perspective, in viewpoint and in feeling. To accomplish this we will employ a variety of techniques to shake up the way we look at the world around us. Multiple shooting assignments will be paired with daily class critiques to invigorate your reawakening creativity. Daily readings will feed your intellectual curiosity. The whole point of this workshop is to have fun while working hard and applaud each other’s efforts as we stretch old boundaries and self-imposed limitations.

You are requested to present five images on Monday morning – which you will share in a five-images-in-five-minutes format. If you wish to do so, you may also bring a small, representative portfolio of current work. I will meet with each of you individually throughout the workshop to review this work.

Any size camera format is welcome but I encourage you to use a digital camera for this workshop due to the nature of the assignments and the limitations of time and staff for processing black & white film (no color processing is available). The daily critiques of assignment work are designed to bring renewed energy and deeper meaning to your photographs, rather than focusing on the crafting of the “perfect” print. Bring your laptop for editing your work, if you have one.
