North Dakota Portfolio
These images were made in some of the abandoned farms and structures around the towns of Rugby and Rolette, North Dakota.
Why do so many of us enjoy photographing in these empty, often ruined buildings? Perhaps it is the sense of mystery and the chance to be a visual archeologist, trying to answer the question "why?" Maybe it has more to do with a sense of loss for the past – for our communities, for the earth, for our selves. Then again, it could simply be the way the light plays on peeling paint and weathered boards.
Whatever the draw, if you are interested in making your own images in places like this, check out the Spirit of Structure: North Dakota workshop offering.
