A Walk Along the Jordan

Tillman’s fourth collection of images focuses on the Jordan River in Utah. One of the few north flowing rivers in the United States, the Jordan is approximately fifty miles long and runs from the outlet of Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake across three counties and through fifteen different communities. A remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville, the river once provided a home for a diverse community of wildlife until the arrival of settlers in 1847. Since that time the needs of the growing population of the valley significantly altered the natural flow and health of the river. Fortunately in 2002 the Jordan River Parkway was established to create a mixed-use trail along the river, serving to provide recreation as well as protection for the river and its environs. It is hoped that in these images the beauty and diversity of this “urban wilderness” can serve to remind us to keep inviolate the well being of our natural world.
