Dear Friends,
I hope that during these summer months you are each finding time in your busy schedules to enjoy the good weather with family and friends. Here in Maine we are already beginning to experience the first hints of fall – a colorful leaf here and there, cooler nights and the receding light. It serves to remind us all to appreciate each remaining warm and sunny day!
ODIN STONE goes to press the end of this month! I am incredibly excited to announce the pre-publication specials for my new book after six years photographing in and around the Orkney Islands. Those of you who have been to Orkney with me may recognize some of the locations. For those of you who haven’t visited Orkney yet, I hope they will inspire you to do so.
As a working artist I depend on your patronage to support my projects through book and print sales. As I did with TOUCHSTONES, I will be doing a limited run of only 500 copies of ODIN STONE. There are two different portfolio options, a fifteen (15) print Patron Portfolio and a five (5) print Collector Portfolio both include your choice of ANY of the images in the book. These prints will be presented, unmatted, in a handmade portfolio case that includes a copy of ODIN STONE. Another option is the Limited Edition Book and Print, which comes with your choice of any one print, matted and ready for framing. The pre-publication specials also include a reduced price on a copy of ODIN STONE without a print.
Visit www.tillmancrane.com/odinstone to view the images, to see pricing details and to place your order today. Pre-publication prices are good ONLY through September 15, 2008. Email or snail mail your order and payment today while supplies last. Don’t delay. TOUCHSTONES sold out within a year and we expect this limited run to sell out quickly and increase in value. I know you’ll agree with me that ODIN STONE will make a beautiful addition to your book and print collection.
My last workshop for 2008 is coming up in September. The Olson House Workshop is being offered through the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport Maine August 31st through September 6th. This house, made famous by Andrew Wyeth’s paintings of Christina and her brother Alvaro, is an example of classic vernacular architecture. Students will have the rare opportunity of access to the house and its environs during the course of the week. This workshop will change how you work, think and see and is aimed at intermediate and advanced students. For further information and/or to enroll in this workshop visit www.theworkshops.com.
My Workshop schedule for 2009 will be on my website soon. Highlights for the year include workshops to Orkney, Scotland, Lewis & Harris, Scotland, San Pedro & the Atacama Desert in Chile and Monhegan Island, Maine. Two new exciting workshops here in Maine include The Soft Focus Lens Workshop with my good friend, Dr. Russ Young and The Book Project: A-Z for Self-Publishing Books. In addition, I will be offering three platinum printing workshops here in my home darkroom, and The View Camera – Bigger IS Better. I hope to again have the opportunity to co-teach a workshop next year with Bruce Barnbaum as well as at Peters Valley Craft Center (Layton NJ) and the Maine Media Workshops. Remember, a private tutorial to fit your specific needs is always a possibility so contact me at tillman@tillmancrane.com for further information.
Last but not least… as soon as ODIN STONE is run through the press we begin the layout for the Jordan River book due October 2009. Working with the Center for Documentary Arts and Salt Lake Arts Center, I will have a combined book release and exhibit of this work in Salt Lake City November 2009. I will post information on this project as it progresses.
Order your copy of ODIN STONE today while supplies last. Keep an eye on my website for the 2009 Workshop schedule. Let me know of your specific workshop needs. New Musings on ODIN STONE will begin in September.
Enjoy these last lazy days of summer!
